An animated video explaining Electoral Justice and Voting Rights that was aired during the Black National Convention on Aug 28, 2020.
Working closely with M4BL members who were organizing the Convention, we were tasked to visualize their passion, energy, and message to black people all across the country. Using the momentum from the marches and upcoming election, we used historical imagery, fluid shapes, and brand colors to create a powerful and hopeful message through this animation.
After dividing the script into 7 scenes, storyboarding was crucial in communicating our ideas with the client and allowing Nic; the animator I was working with, to understand the flow of the motion. After storyboarding, I created vector assets drawn in procreate and adobe illustrator, then composed them in to style frames for Nic to animate. Communication was key to creating this project and I learned a lot about how to work with collaborators and clients remotely.
Initially we created 3 small animated scenes to propose how we would design the motion, type, themes, and photography for the client to review. The first is illustrating the Ecosystem of many organizations coming together. Second was how to illustrate historical and thematic references. Third was illustrating the M4BL symbolism. All these scenes were used in the final animation.
